Journalists in peril

Journalism can be a very dangerous job depending on what you write about and where you decided to go. Many journalists have been attacked and killed due to there articles and jobs. Journalists even sacrificed their lives to uncover corruptions for their readers. A journalist name Lasantha Wickermatunge worte his own obituary knowing he was going to die due pervious attacks.
Wickermatunge was a Sri Lankan  journalist that spoke of the governement and how it was corrupted.
He informed his people about what was going on even if it meant he was going to die. I thought it was very heroic
and admire this journalist for his decision.

Daniel Pearl, a journalist for The Washington Post, was another journalist that suffered for being a journalist.
Daniel Pearl was kidnapped in Pakistan a while after the 9/11 incendient. He was reporting the war on terrorism
when he was then kidnapped and beheaded as a warning to the U.S. He was also an innocent journalist that was
killed in another country while they wrote their reports.

Luckily for many journalist there exists an program that tries to protect journalists for attacks and try their best to
put an end to it. This program is called the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). On their website their are
many graphs describing how many journalists have been killed in each country, showing how dangerous each
country is to journalist. It also shows the many reasons for each death. Its a good and informative site and a great
program in my opinion. http://cpj.org/

What I learned in Journalism

Recently I learned how to write different kinds of leads in my journalism class. There are many different ways to write a lead for a story. A direct lead includes the word "you" and it  puts the reader in the story. A scene-setter lead describes the scene where the story takes place. It uses the senses like auditory, feeling, and smell to really show how it was. The lead makes the story interesting to the reader and it still explains what the story is about.

Another thing I learned was how to write a story in inverted pyramid form. When writing in that form, all the important information goes first. Things that describe the who, what, when, and where go in the beginning. That way if people only have time to read part of the story, they still know what is about.

I also learned how to interview people via Skype. It was really fun actually and it good for when I need to interview someone that is far away.

Another important thing I learned was about ethics. Its all about knowing whether to add something into the story or not. For example, if your source says, "this is off record," then you are not allowed to publish the statement they say afterwards. I found it great to learn and every reporter should know this.

I read this article and was really happy to hear that one of my favorite groups are going to South America. Its good to see that their company is aware of its non-asian fans. They are expanding their audience and rapidly! They will be a great success.

I love how much love Kim Kyu Jong put in his letter to his fans. It shows how much he cares for them. Its sad that we, his fans, won't be seeing him for a while but we will be anticipating his return and wish him good luck in the military.

BlockB Trouble

http://www.allkpop.com/2012/02/block-b-stirs-controversy-with-thai-interview-draws-response-from-2pm

I read this article about K-pop group 2pm's response to the controversy in Thailand with BlockB. I believe that BlockB was wrong for being immature in an interview and that Thai member of 2pm, Nichkhun, was right for saying they are wrong. BlockB did write an apology letter addressing their behavior, which I believe was also correct.
